Our Chambers History

In 2005, ABEOCCIMA was accredited alongside other five City/State and Bilateral Chambers of Commerce in Nigeria under the accreditation programme by NACCIMA/Centre for International Private Enterprise (CIPE), Washington D.C, USA.
Presently, the membership of the Chamber is about 500. Operation of the Chamber is structured on the Executive/Secretariat pedestal. The Executive formulates policies while the Secretariat implements the programmes of the Chamber.
Aside being a business advocacy group, ABEOCCIMA has also made tremendous impact in assisting businesses to build capacities for profitability. In 2005 through 2010, the Chamber played a leading role in facilitating the establishment of Abeokuta Gas Station by the Nigerian Gas Company Limited (a subsidiary of NNPC) for the benefit of industries at Onijanganjangan industrial layout along Abeokuta-Sango-Lagos Expressway. The successful launch of the gas station has given way for the establishment of gas-powered Independent Power Stations which guarantees uninterrupted power supply to the industries, apart from the fact that the industries also power their facilities directly from the gas station.
The Chamber has also ventured into SMEs cluster projects, focusing on Agriculture value chain development for youth empowerment. Presently, the Chamber has succeeded in clustering some youths for Palm Kernel Oil Production at the Technology Incubation Centre, Onijanganjangan, Abeokuta. Plan is underway for the establishment of more clusters for shea butter production as well as Ofada rice processing and packaging.
In 2018, we collaborated with DFID-PERL to bring together Ofada Rice farmers, millers, processors and marketers at stakeholder forum aimed at upscaling the production of Ofada rice in Egba zone. The primary goal of the Chamber in this regard is to work together with research institutions to make available improved varieties of Ofada rice seedlings to farmers at affordable cost in order to build their capacity for enhanced planting and production of the local rice.
The Chamber, under a joint venture arrangement acquired 26.3 hectares of farmland at Akogun Village in Odeda Local Government for an integrated farm project.
Under the cocoa cluster farm initiative of the Chamber, twenty (20) acres of land were acquired for the cultivation of cocoa by members under the umbrella of ABEOCCIMA Cocoa Cooperative Farm. The Chamber also has the same projection for cashew cluster farm.
The Chamber´s Multipurpose Cooperative Society is opened to members and non-members of the Chamber. Since inception over five years ago, the cooperative movement has continued to wax stronger.
ABEOCCIMA played a frontline role in the first phase of OGUNCCIMA/AHK-Dual Vocational Training Programme in Office Administration and Project Management, Industrial Electronics, Industrial Mechanics and Technical Facility Management from 2017 to 2018. We have been persistent in mobilizing our members to key into this programme in order to achieve the objective of improving vocational education within the Nigerian enterprise, thereby enhancing industrial skill acquisition and youth employability. Our Chamber is deeply involved in the work towards the upscale of DVT through the commencement of the second phase of the project.
ABEOCCIMA has an established collaboration with development partners and bilateral Chambers like German Agency for International Development (GIZ), UK DFID-PERL and Nigerian-German Chamber of Commerce (NGCC), (formerly Nigerian-German Business Association (NGBA).
